How should you organize a 7 × 7 Cat Sudoku board?

The Hard page uses forty-nine squares and needs seven cats. Its label names the seven-by-seven format, not a calibrated grade of logic. The board is large enough that an unrecorded exclusion can distract you on a later pass. Treat it as a problem of organization: inspect each row, column and connected color region, and keep track of which units still need a cat. This remains Queens-style placement logic, with no touching cats. It does not ask you to fill every square or place sudoku digits.

How does a regular scanning order help your cat puzzle?

Choose a repeatable order instead of jumping between whichever regions look interesting. Check the top row, continue downward, scan the columns, then inspect each colored region. For every unfilled unit, ask how many positions remain legal. A unit with one candidate fixes a cat. A unit with none asks you to revisit an earlier placement or a mistaken mark. This routine does not guarantee a move on every pass, but it helps distinguish a genuinely unresolved situation from a constraint you simply overlooked.

Which exclusions should you record on the seven-row grid?

Record the consequences of a placement while they are fresh in your mind. A cat blocks every other square in its row, column and color region, plus all neighboring squares. The diagonal exclusions are easy to miss when you are concentrating on a long region boundary. Marks remain manual, so their presence is not proof that a position is impossible. When you undo a placement, check whether the remaining crosses still have another justification. Keeping this distinction clear is more useful than filling the board with unsupported notes.

How do you revisit a difficult placement without restarting?

You can remove a cat by tapping it again, erase an occupied selected square, or use Undo to restore a prior move. Red squares identify current row, column, region or touching conflicts. A cat that is not red is not necessarily part of the final solution, so review your reasoning rather than treating absence of a warning as proof. Hint offers answer assistance by removing an incorrect cat or adding a correct position. It does not explain a full deduction chain for the seven-by-seven arrangement.

When should you choose a smaller or larger Cat Sudoku grid?

A seven-by-seven board is useful when you want enough positions to practise a scanning routine without using the full nine-by-nine field. If taps feel imprecise or notes become hard to read, return to a smaller size. If you want a wider field, eight-by-eight is available immediately; there is no unlocking requirement. Play again starts another practice puzzle at this size. Progress is saved locally in this browser, without account sync. Moving to another device or website origin does not automatically carry the current board or statistics across.

A helpful review is to pick one unfilled region and explain every exclusion that remains inside it. If you cannot explain a cross, reconsider it before drawing conclusions from the remaining candidates. This is especially useful after Undo, because a note can survive even when its original justification has disappeared.
